As the 2026 high school football season approaches, Brevard County is buzzing with anticipation. New leadership, seasoned veterans and a handful of statistical milestones are shaping the narrative for each program.
Coaching Changes Across the County
Three programs will enter the new campaign with fresh faces in the head coach’s chair. Ryan Schneider, who guided Cocoa to three straight state titles, has shifted to Melbourne Central Catholic, while Nate Hooks, previously an assistant, now leads the Tigers at Cocoa. At Merritt Island Christian, Josh Babin, who has spent the last six years on the staff, has been promoted to head coach.
Among the county’s longest‑tenured mentors, Chris Sands at Eau Gallie stands out with a 64‑27 record accumulated since 2018, making him the most stable presence on the sidelines.
Logan Hallock, the head coach at Astronaut High, carries a 13‑17 record over three seasons, a modest but steady trajectory as he looks to improve on last year’s performance.
Billy Miller at Bayside High brings decades of local experience, having taught and coached in the area since 1998, a testament to his enduring commitment.
Looking Ahead
The upcoming schedule will test these coaches as they blend new strategies with the expectations of their schools and communities. The Florida High School Athletic Association and the Sunshine State Athletic Association will continue to oversee competition, ensuring that the county’s teams remain competitive on the regional stage. With a blend of veteran stability and fresh perspectives, Brevard County football fans can expect an exciting season.
