A Late‑Inning Surge
The Brewster Whitecaps traveled to face the Orleans Firebirds on a crisp summer evening, aware that slow starts had haunted them throughout the season. Manager Jamie Shevchik voiced his concern before the game, but the team was determined to flip the script.
In the fourth inning, Terrence Kiel II stepped up and delivered a game‑tying double that ignited a four‑run burst. The rally put Brewster ahead 4‑3, a lead they would protect for the remainder of the night.
The Whitecaps' bullpen answered the call, with Finbar O’Brien delivering a crucial pitch to end the sixth inning and preserve the advantage. Starter Mavrick Rizy had a shaky outing, surrendering a home run and committing an error, but the relievers limited the Firebirds to a single run over 5.2 innings.
Offensive contributions came from a deep lineup that included Jamie Laskofski, Brennan Seiber, Owen Jenkins, Cash Strayer, Jake Lambdin, Dane Harvey, Carter Williams, Camden Wimbish, Bub Terrell, JD Stein and Tyler Myatt, all of whom helped sustain the early lead.
Veteran relievers Zach Kmatz and Jake Lambdin provided depth in the later innings, while the manager emphasized the need to improve hitting consistency to give the pitching staff more breathing room as the season progresses.
