Father Ryan High School announced this week that Brian Harris will take the helm of its baseball program, tapping a former Commodores shortstop who grew up in the heart of Nashville's baseball culture.
From Player to Coach
Harris lettered at MBA before moving on to Vanderbilt, where he contributed to a team that captured the 2004 state title and later secured an NCAA regional championship in his senior year.
After turning professional for a brief stint in independent leagues, Harris transitioned into coaching, spending stints at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Tulane before founding the Harris Ball Club, a youth travel program that has become a fixture in the region.
Replacing a Legend
He succeeds Mike Mascari, whose 18‑year tenure produced more than 250 wins and a Division II‑AA tournament appearance in 2019, a legacy that school officials say sets a high bar for the new coach.
Ann Mullins, Father Ryan's Director of Athletics, praised Harris's deep ties to the community and his alignment with the school's mission, calling the appointment a natural progression for the program.
Paul Davis, the school's President, added that Harris's blend of playing experience, academic insight and developmental leadership makes him uniquely qualified to guide the Irish toward future championships.
The hiring follows an extensive search and reflects the administration's confidence that Harris will continue the tradition of excellence while fostering the next generation of student‑athletes.
