WPI graduate student’s standout pitching season recognized by conference coaches

A Season of Excellence

Brian Riley, a graduate student on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute baseball roster, earned a spot on the 2026 NEWMAC Baseball All-Conference Second Team, a testament to his dominant pitching performance this spring.

Riley posted a team-best 1.90 earned run average over 16 appearances, compiling a 2-0 record while striking out 22 batters in 23.2 innings. Opponents managed just a .222 batting average against him, and he surrendered only five earned runs without allowing a single home run.

Conference Honors Across the Board

The conference also recognized a host of other standout performers, with Salve Regina’s Shane Williams voted Player of the Year, Nolan Romanowski awarded Pitcher of the Year, and Grady Schopps named Defensive Player of the Year.

MIT’s Brayden Lewis received Rookie of the Year honors, while Salve Regina’s coaching staff was celebrated as Coaching Staff of the Year.

Riley joins fellow second-team selections Joe DeRienzo of Salve Regina, Josh Mayo from Springfield College, and Aiden Cardoza of Wheaton College on the conference’s list of top performers.
