Brian Swanson Commits to Texas Longhorns
Four-star offensive tackle Brian Swanson announced his commitment to the University of Texas on Wednesday, choosing the Longhorns over a host of elite programs including Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU, Texas A&M and SMU.
Swanson is ranked as the 17th overall prospect in Texas and the third-best offensive tackle in the state, and he emphasized his versatility, noting that he can line up both on the edge and inside the formation.
His pledge arrives at a pivotal moment for Texas, which missed out on three top offensive tackles earlier in the recruiting cycle, all of whom signed with Texas A&M. The addition of Swanson helps the Longhorns climb to the 13th spot in the national recruiting rankings.
The class already includes a five-star recruit in Easton Royal of New Orleans, and with 15 total commitments, the 2027 cohort is emerging as one of the most balanced groups in recent memory.
A Boost for the Longhorns' Front
Coach Steve Sarkisian praised the signing, emphasizing that Swanson’s size, technique and football IQ align with the program’s vision for a dominant offensive line.
Analysts at 247Sports noted that the commitment could shift momentum in Texas’ favor as the team looks to rebuild a line that has been a focal point of criticism in recent seasons.
