Brian Taege has been appointed head coach of the Jacobs High School boys soccer program, taking over from Colin Brice after the latter’s eight‑year tenure.
Taege brings a deep connection to the school, having played four years of soccer and three of baseball at Jacobs before returning in 2011 as a teacher and coach. Over the past 15 years he has guided teams at every level of the program, giving him a unique perspective on player development.
The program has struggled recently, posting a 5‑13‑3 record last season and finishing eighth in the Fox Valley Conference, marking three consecutive losing campaigns. Taege hopes to break that trend by emphasizing a positive culture, accountability and communication.
A New Era for Jacobs Soccer
In his coaching philosophy, Taege stresses belief in the team, collective responsibility and open communication. He wants players to view success as a shared endeavor rather than individual accolades.
Fall practice will begin on Monday, with the first games scheduled for August 24. The team will aim to reclaim a regional title that the school last captured in 2022, while also working to improve facilities that have been a long‑standing priority.
Cultivating a New Team Identity
Taege believes that a strong sense of belonging and mutual respect will translate into better performances on the field, and he is already planning initiatives to foster that environment.
He also hopes to enhance the soccer field and lighting, recalling his own experience watching the field’s construction as a student‑athlete, to create a more inviting atmosphere for future seasons.
