Brittany Cohen has been appointed as the new head women’s basketball coach at SUNY Morrisville for the 2026‑27 season, bringing a proven track record of transformation and academic excellence. Her arrival marks a strategic shift for the program as it seeks to elevate its competitive standing while maintaining a strong emphasis on student‑athlete development.
Cohen spent nine years at SUNY Potsdam where she guided the Bears to their first playoff appearance in fourteen years. Under her leadership the team captured multiple All‑Conference honors, including the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2019, and consistently posted academic achievements that earned Dean’s List and SUNYAC Commissioner’s List recognitions.
Community Engagement and Service
Beyond the hardwood, Cohen has been deeply involved in community service projects such as leaf‑raking events and youth basketball clinics. For five years she served on the Potsdam Diversity and Inclusion Action Coalition, and since 2016 she has co‑directed the Potsdam Basketball Summer Camp, providing mentorship and skill development to aspiring players.
Her coaching journey began as a graduate assistant at Le Moyne College in 2012, followed by a stint as head assistant at Nazareth College and a role with the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks. Cohen earned her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from SUNY Cortland, where she was a two‑time SUNYAC Conference Player of the Year, and she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports psychology from Capella University.
Professional Affiliations and Vision
Cohen remains an active member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, positioning her at the forefront of emerging strategies in the sport. With a clear focus on integrating athletic excellence, academic achievement, and community outreach, she aims to build a sustainable winning culture at Morrisville that reflects the values of her alma mater and the broader region.
