The Broadneck Bruins 11U baseball team completed a flawless run through the Anne Arundel Baseball Cooperative’s championship tournament, finishing 4‑0 and securing the league title.
Their opening victory over Severna Park Green Hornets set the tone, with a 13‑3 win that featured a burst of offensive firepower and a strong outing from Davis Tankersley on the mound.
A Championship Defined by Unity
The second game saw the Bruins dismantle Lake Shore Blue Sox 13‑5, as Graeme Cloud, Sean Anderson, Dylan Gwaltney, John Kime and Thompson combined to limit the opposition to just two hits while the offense kept the pressure on.
A tense semifinal ended in a walk‑off, when Brooks Young crossed the home plate after an infield fly from Davis Tankersley, sealing a 9‑8 victory and sending the team to the championship final.
In the title game, Tankersley delivered five innings of one‑run baseball, while Dylan Gwaltney shut down a late rally by the South River Seahawks, preserving the lead.
Behind the plate, Hank Kirby caught every inning of the final three contests, earning praise for his steady glove work and game‑calling.
The tournament’s all‑star selections reflected the team’s depth, with Tankersley and David Thompson earning spots on the all‑tournament team.
Head coach Jay Kime praised the squad’s collective effort, noting how the players embraced the ‘Better Every Day’ philosophy and steadily improved across each matchup.
Contributions from Michael Tankersley, Dan Gwaltney, Kevin Kirby and Don Harrison in coaching and supporting roles underscored the community‑driven nature of the championship run.
