Brock Peterson Takes the Helm
Brock Peterson, who has been part of the Augsburg University baseball program since 2021, was announced as the team’s new head coach this week, taking over from longtime mentor Keith Bateman who stepped down after 23 seasons.
Peterson’s ascent reflects a deep‑rooted connection to the university, where he began as a graduate assistant, later serving as recruiting coordinator and assistant coach while also contributing to admissions before stepping into the top role.
His playing days at the University of Northwestern‑St. Paul and Gustavus Adolphus College honed his defensive skill at third base, earning All‑MIAC honors in 2016 and academic recognition on the All‑MIAC squad two years in a row.
The son of former Gustavus Adolphus head coach Ross Peterson, Brock grew up immersed in the sport, later teaching and coaching at Wabasso Public Schools before returning to Augsburg for graduate studies, where he earned a Master of Arts in Leadership in 2022.
Athletic Director Amy Cooper praised Peterson’s commitment to student‑athletes and his vision for sustaining the program’s tradition of excellence, noting that his blend of playing experience, coaching acumen, and academic background positions him to lead the Auggies forward.
