The Joe Tiller Chapter of the Northwest Indiana National Football Foundation will host its annual Honors Brunch on June 14, spotlighting a distinguished group of football figures from the region who have shaped the sport at the high school, collegiate and professional levels.
A Legacy of Coaching Excellence
Among the honorees is Brock Spack, the current head coach of Illinois State University’s football program, who will be presented with the Leroy Keyes Impact Award. Spack’s journey in college football is tightly woven with that of Joe Tiller, having played under Tiller at Purdue before embarking on a coaching career that saw him rise through the ranks at Wyoming, return to Purdue as defensive coordinator, and eventually lead Illinois State to two FCS title‑game appearances.
The banquet will also recognize former Purdue basketball standout Rapheal Davis, who receives the Bernie Flowers Citizenship Award, and former Boilermaker football players Seth Morales and George Karlaftis, both celebrated for their on‑field achievements. In addition, alumni Jason Horn of McCutcheon High School and Eric Watt of South Newton will be inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame, underscoring the deep talent pool nurtured in the state.
Spack’s impact extends beyond wins and losses; his defensive schemes and player development philosophy have left a lasting imprint on every program he has touched. His tenure at Purdue, where he served alongside Tiller for twelve seasons as defensive coordinator, helped shape an era of disciplined, hard‑hitting Boilermaker teams that contended nationally.
The event serves as a reminder of the enduring connections between coaches, players, and institutions that define the Midwest football landscape. As the community gathers to celebrate these achievements, the legacy of Joe Tiller continues to inspire new generations of leaders on and off the field.
