Tennessee’s baseball program received a significant boost this week when Brody Trosclair, a rising sophomore right‑hander from Northwestern State, announced his commitment to the Volunteers. The announcement came after a visit to Knoxville on June 7 and a social‑media pledge that has excited the coaching staff.
A Freshman Year to Remember
During his freshman campaign, Trosclair posted a 5‑1 record with a 1.89 ERA across ten appearances, striking out 55 batters while walking just 11 in 38 innings. His dominance earned him Southland Conference Freshman of the Year honors and a place on the all‑conference first team, though an arm injury curtailed his season in early April.
The Volunteers’ pitching staff will look markedly different in the coming season. New pitching coach Austin Knight, hired from East Carolina, inherits a rotation that lost starter Tegan Kuhns to the MLB draft and Evan Blanco to exhausted eligibility. In addition, relievers Taylor Tracey and Brayden Krenzel, along with freshman Ari Bethea, have entered the transfer portal, creating openings for fresh talent.
Trosclair will join another transfer, Braydon Kersey, a two‑way standout from Mercer, who committed to Tennessee on June 6. Both players are expected to bolster a staff that also welcomes Josh Elander’s guidance, as the program pivots after parting ways with former coach Josh Reynolds following a single season.
The move underscores Tennessee’s aggressive recruiting in the portal era, targeting proven performers from conferences such as the Southland and the Sun Belt. With Knight’s arrival and the influx of experienced arms, the Vols aim to restore competitiveness in the SEC and contend for regional accolades.
