Brookville High School Announces New Superintendent and Head Football Coach

Dr. Mark Lineburg transitions to district leadership while Dustin Russell takes the helm of the football program

Dr. Mark Lineburg, who has guided the Brookville Bees since 1992, announced this week that he will step down as head football coach to assume the role of superintendent for Mecklenburg County Public Schools.

A New Chapter for Brookville Football

In a statement released to the community, Lineburg thanked Principal Christine White for the opportunity to return to teaching and coaching after nearly three decades away, and he praised the unwavering dedication of the students and staff.

Lineburg’s tenure included a 49‑19 record, a state championship appearance in 1996, and a legacy of mentorship that many alumni still recall.

The school board subsequently named Dustin Russell, a coach with recent success at Alleghany High School and a 7‑4 record at Rustburg High School, as the new head football coach for the 2026 season.

Russell, who previously led the Rustburg Red Devils to a playoff berth, expressed excitement about building on the program’s tradition and about the chance to work with the next generation of players.

Community leaders say the leadership change reflects a broader commitment to continuity, blending educational administration with athletic development.
