Brown University’s men’s basketball program has announced the appointment of Andrew Becil as its new operations coordinator, a move that underscores the school’s commitment to strengthening the behind‑the‑scenes infrastructure that supports competitive play.
A Strategic Addition to the Coaching Staff
Becil arrives after a two‑year stint at Quinnipiac University, where he served as a graduate assistant and video coordinator. In that role he produced film breakdowns that fed directly into scouting reports and post‑game analysis, a skill set that aligns with Brown’s emphasis on data‑driven preparation.
His responsibilities at Quinnipiac also included leading offseason player development sessions, organizing individual and small‑group workouts, and assisting the recruiting department with logistics and travel coordination. He managed a team of 18 student managers, overseeing practice schedules and road‑trip itineraries, experiences that should translate smoothly to the Brown program.
Prior to his graduate work, Becil was the head coach of the Rens United 17U squad, a platform that helped several players secure college scholarships. He also contributed as an assistant coach at Wilbraham and Monson Academy, further honing his ability to mentor young talent.
Becil holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, earned in 2021, and a master’s degree from Quinnipiac, completed in May of this year, giving him both academic grounding and recent practical experience.
Mike Martin, who has been associated with the program in a different capacity, is also mentioned in the announcement, though details of his role remain unclear. The university hopes that the combined expertise of Becil and Martin will enhance operational efficiency and strategic planning for the Bears.
Athletic director Maria O’Connor praised the hire, stating that Becil’s blend of analytical acumen and hands‑on coaching experience positions the program to compete more effectively within the Ivy League and beyond. The university looks forward to seeing how these new resources will be leveraged as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
