A Legendary Return
Bruce Dockery, a name synonymous with Indiana basketball excellence, has been named interim head coach of the Memorial High School girls basketball program for the 2026‑27 season. The decision follows a distinguished 31‑year career in which he amassed 502 victories, the most in SIAC history, and guided the Tigers to a state championship in 2011.
Dockery’s résumé includes 14 sectional appearances, six regional trips, two semi‑state runs and eight Coach‑of‑the‑Year honors, achievements that have cemented his place as the most successful coach in SIAC annals.
After retiring in 2019, he returned to the program as an assistant under former star player Mallory Ladd, gaining fresh perspective while remaining deeply connected to the school’s culture.
Memorial president Josh Reising confirmed that Dockery was the top choice for the interim role, citing his unparalleled knowledge of the program and his ability to mentor the next generation of players.
Honoring a Legacy
In recognition of his contributions, the school dedicated its gym floor as ‘Bruce Dockery Court,’ a tribute that underscores the lasting impact he has had on students, alumni and the broader Evansville community.
Dockery emphasized the rich history of Memorial athletics during his brief remarks, noting that the program’s traditions will continue to inspire future teams.
The upcoming season will blend Dockery’s seasoned leadership with the energy of a young roster, aiming to rebuild the Tigers into contenders while preserving the values that defined his earlier successes.
