Bruins Flip Prospect for Future Picks
Boston’s front office confirmed a trade that sends forward prospect Andre Gasseau to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a fourth‑round selection (No. 104) and a fifth‑round selection (No. 157) in the upcoming 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
Gasseau, a Garden Grove native, spent four seasons at Boston College, where he captained the Eagles in his senior year and amassed 111 points in 135 games. His collegiate career also included a stint with the Fargo Force of the USHL, where he posted 38 points in 60 appearances.
The deal leaves the Bruins with eight draft choices for the 2026 draft, which is scheduled for June 26‑27 at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. The additional picks could give the club more flexibility as it looks to replenish a pipeline that has been depleted by recent graduations.
What the Picks Unlock
With eight selections, Boston can target a broader range of talent, from high‑upside forwards to defensive prospects. The extra ammunition also positions the team to potentially move up in later rounds if a coveted player slips.
General manager Don Sweeney, who orchestrated the transaction, emphasized that the move reflects a commitment to building a deeper roster while maintaining a competitive edge in the short term.
A Look at the Player’s Journey
Andre Gasseau’s trajectory from a seventh‑round pick in 2021 to a team captain at Boston College illustrates his growth and leadership. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent on August 15, 2026, a timeline that gave Boston a narrow window to extract value before his market opened.
The trade also highlights the Bruins’ willingness to leverage draft capital in a market where prospects are increasingly viewed as assets for future flexibility.
