Bryan Tibaldi, a seasoned assistant coach with a track record in both college and the NBA, has been announced as the latest addition to Michael Malone’s staff at the University of North Carolina.
His most recent role was with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he contributed to a 64‑win season that secured the franchise’s top seed in the Eastern Conference.
Tibaldi’s career path includes stints as a player development coach and video assistant for the Cavaliers, as well as earlier roles with the Canton Charge, Chicago Bulls and several college programs.
Before entering the professional ranks, he played at Michigan State, where he earned Academic All‑Big Ten honors and experienced a national championship game loss to UNC in 2009.
During his lone season at Providence College, he served as an assistant to head coach Kim English, a brief connection that ultimately led to his move to UNC.
What This Means for the Tar Heels
The infusion of NBA‑level experience is expected to sharpen player development and video analysis for UNC, reinforcing Malone’s vision for a competitive roster.
University officials highlighted the hire as part of a broader strategy to blend proven winning habits with the program’s traditional strengths.
A Look Back at His Roots
Tibaldi’s journey from a Michigan State graduate to a coach at Cleveland State, DePaul and Missouri reflects a diverse background that aligns with UNC’s emphasis on growth.
