Bryton Barrett Joins the Patriots
George Mason University announced that Bryton Barrett, a 6‑foot‑8 wing from Owings Mills, Maryland, has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Patriots for the 2026‑27 season. The commitment marks a significant addition to the program’s frontcourt as the team looks to rebuild after a challenging recent stretch.
Barrett’s high school career at Archbishop Carroll was defined by dominance in the WCAC. Under head coach Malcolm Battle, the Lions posted their first 20‑win season in three decades, reached the semifinals of the 2026 WCAC Championship, and finished the year ranked #11 in the All‑Met Boys Basketball ledger.
During that senior campaign he logged 11.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game, earning 2026 All‑WCAC Honorable Mention accolades and a First Team All‑Defensive selection with DC Premier on the AAU circuit. His defensive instincts and ability to stretch the floor have drawn praise from analysts across the region.
Head coach Tony Skinn highlighted Barrett’s versatility, stating that the youngster’s skill set and competitive fire should translate seamlessly to the Atlantic 10 level. “He brings a blend of size, athleticism and defensive intensity that complements our existing core,” Skinn said.
A Defensive Anchor and Offensive Spark
Barrett’s reputation as a lockdown defender precedes him, but his offensive growth has been equally impressive. Coaches expect him to become a reliable scoring option in the post while continuing to anchor a defense that has struggled for consistency in recent seasons.
The incoming freshman class also welcomes guard Peyton Miller from Atlanta, Georgia, and forward Shane Pendergrass from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, adding depth and variety to the Patriots’ roster as they aim to climb back into national contention.
