Perez, ranked No. 296 nationally and No. 36 among defensive linemen by the 247 Sports Composite, chose the Hoosiers over a direct scholarship from Ohio State. His flip underscores the volatility of the 2027 recruiting cycle, where even highly touted prospects can shift allegiance in the final months.
The New Priorities
The loss is particularly felt because Ohio State’s defensive line board for the class is already thin. Coaches have been emphasizing the need to lock in additional interior talent, naming Marcus Fakatou and Kasi Currie as the next priority targets.
Fakatou, described as a 3‑tech prospect, brings interior disruption, while Currie is valued for his run‑stopping ability. Both players are slated to wrap up official visits before signing, and early indicators suggest Ohio State remains the front‑runner for Fakatou, while Indiana is also in the mix for Currie.
