Bucknell University has revealed the five players who will serve as captains for the 2026 football season, a roster that blends seasoned veterans with rising leaders.
Captains with Proven Impact
At the center of the group is senior Sam Milligan, who has become a cornerstone of the Bison offense after earning back‑to‑back All‑Patriot League First Team honors and topping the squad with ten receiving touchdowns last year.
Milligan’s versatility was on full display when he set a single‑game record with four touchdowns against VMI, lining up at wide receiver, quarterback and defensive back throughout the contest.
Joining him are TJ Cadden, whose 1,476 all‑purpose yards and 765 kickoff return yards placed him second and fourth in the Patriot League respectively, and Jack Inserra, a defensive line stalwart who logged 41 tackles, 7.5 for loss and three sacks.
Inside linebacker Nick Hoying, who contributed 53 tackles and three sacks, rounds out the defensive leaders, while junior transfer Chris Dietrich, who completed 79 of 122 passes for nine touchdowns in just six games, brings quarterback depth and poise.
A New Chapter for the Bison
The captains will make their first public appearance in the season opener against Richmond on August 29, 2026, a matchup that promises to set the tone for a year many expect to be competitive.
Beyond the field, the leadership group has emphasized accountability and community engagement, traits that coaches say will shape the Bison’s identity throughout the campaign.
With a blend of experience and fresh talent, Bucknell hopes the captains’ influence will translate into stronger performances on both sides of the ball as the team aims for a successful season.
