The Buffalo Bills have announced their Week 5 High School Girls Flag Football Coaches of the Week, spotlighting three local leaders who have made a marked impact on their teams and communities.
The recognition, which will run across seven weeks, comes with a $1,000 grant for each coach’s program, underscoring the franchise’s commitment to growing the sport at the grassroots level.
Dan Hannon, the head coach at Kenmore, earned the Buffalo Region honor after guiding his squad to a 22‑6 overall record and capturing the 2025 division championship. Beyond the field, Hannon organizes an annual free clinic aimed at boosting interest in flag football and recently took part in a district wellness event where he taught bike‑safety basics.
Dennis Thomas, who heads the Padilla program, was named the Rochester Region Coach of the Week. With nine years of coaching experience, Thomas has overseen a dramatic turnaround, lifting his team from a 2‑6 record in 2025 to an 8‑3‑1 finish in 2026, including six shutouts and a fifth‑seed placement in Section V Class B.
Dan Scicchitano, the head coach at Central Square, received the Syracuse Region accolade after steering his team to a sectional title. The squad rebounded from a 0‑4 start in 2026 to win eight of its last ten games, highlighted by three consecutive shutouts. Scicchitano also serves as offensive coordinator for the school’s tackle football team and has experience coaching multiple sports.
All three coaches share a common thread of community engagement. The Redhawks, representing Central Square, have taken part in Unified basketball events, read books to elementary schools, and introduced flag football at a Family Fun Night, illustrating how the sport is being woven into broader school activities.
Community Impact Extends Beyond the Field
Their efforts illustrate a growing emphasis on holistic development, where athletic success is paired with educational outreach and public health initiatives, setting a precedent for future generations of players and fans alike.
