The SWOSU Bulldogs soccer program opens its 2026 campaign at home, hosting Colorado Christian on Thursday at 4 p.m., a match that marks the first of four consecutive home games to start the season.
Building on a 2025 season that ended 11‑5‑3 and secured the No. 2 seed in the Great American Conference tournament, the Bulldogs aim to translate that momentum into another strong year.
Head coach Mark Persson, now in his 18th year, brings a career record of 166‑113‑44 and a résumé that includes six regular‑season conference titles, five GAC tournament championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances.
The returning core is anchored by Saoirse Hourigan, the reigning GAC Newcomer of the Year, who tallied seven goals and 18 points in her freshman season, and Braelee Epp, who contributed 13 goals, eight assists and 34 points en route to Second Team All‑GAC honors.
Other key returnees such as Elise LaForge, Brekyn Cope, Raniya Cattina, Laia Costa, Kayla Abbott and Madelyn Kitchen add depth after earning All‑GAC or Honorable Mention recognitions, while defensive pillars Philippine de Sancy and goalkeeper Emma Young, who started every match last year and helped record six shutouts, remain vital.
The Bulldogs will also feel the loss of several All‑GAC performers — Julie Andersen, Ruth Vasquez, Ashlyn Stigall and Riley Massey — who depart after impactful collegiate careers.
After the initial home stretch, the schedule takes the team to Austin, Texas, for a clash with St. Edward’s, then to Newman, Texas, before conference play begins on September 16 with a home matchup against Oklahoma Baptist, setting the stage for a double round‑robin that culminates in November postseason action.
A Season of Ambition
With a blend of experienced leadership and fresh talent, the Bulldogs are poised to defend their position among GAC favorites and chase another deep run in the conference tournament.
