A bus loaded with members of the Douglas Byrd High School football team overturned on a highway ramp in Brunswick County early Thursday afternoon.
The vehicle was returning from a 7-on-7 scrimmage against South Brunswick High School, traveling from Fayetteville to the team's home base, with 33 people on board — 26 students and seven adults.
Emergency responders extricated the passengers and transported two adults and two students to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; the remaining occupants are slated for medical evaluation.

Cumberland County Schools issued a statement confirming the incident and pledging support for the students, staff and families involved, while coordinating safe transportation for those needing to return home.
The ramp from U.S. Highway 17 North to U.S. Highway 74 West remains closed as crews continue their work, and investigators have yet to determine the factors that led to the crash.
