C.J. Silas has been a fixture in sports broadcasting for more than two decades, best known for her 24‑year tenure as the public address voice at Cal Poly’s baseball games. Her unmistakable tone now reaches a global audience as she steps into new roles this summer.
In July, Silas served as the public address announcer for the Women’s Baseball World Cup, a tournament that saw powerhouse nations such as the United States, Australia and Canada advance through the opening group stage. The event marked a milestone in her career, blending her long‑standing affiliation with collegiate baseball and the international stage.
Building on that experience, Silas has continued to lend her voice to the inaugural Women’s Professional Baseball League, where she has been calling games for two months and counting. The league’s fresh energy offers a new canvas for her storytelling, as she navigates the fast‑paced action of professional play.
A Voice for the Future
Beyond the microphone, Silas describes her summer work as a ‘dream come true,’ emphasizing her commitment to using sports as a conduit for community unity, social change and the amplification of under‑represented voices.
The ripple effect of Silas’s contributions extends locally, where Nick Wilson, a Tribune sports contributor and UC Santa Barbara and UC Berkeley alumnus from Ojai, highlights the significance of these milestones for regional sports coverage.
