A Season of Records and Recognition
Cailynn Withers capped her high school career with a staggering 24 goals and 27 assists, guiding the South Rowan Raiders to a 15‑7‑1 record and earning Co‑Player of the Year honors in Rowan County. The accolade placed her alongside Salisbury’s Lola Koontz on the prestigious 4A All‑State team, a testament to her impact on the field.
Known for an unselfish style, Withers often prioritized setting up teammates over adding to her own tally. As a junior she operated primarily on defense, recording just two goals but dishing out 11 assists, and the following season she was shifted to a more attacking role where she flourished, scoring four goals and adding an assist in a pivotal victory over Salisbury.
Her twin sister Campbell Withers, a defensive specialist on the volleyball court, was a constant companion throughout the journey, offering support that coaches and teammates alike noted as a key factor in Cailynn’s development.
Looking Ahead to College and Career
Off the field, Withers graduated with a 4.7 GPA and will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study psychology, aiming to become a mental health therapist. The decision to stay within the UNC system was a natural one, given her long‑standing admiration for the campus and its academic reputation.
Community members and teammates alike anticipate that the Raiders will remain a competitive force next season, buoyed by the leadership example set by Withers and the continued growth of players such as Brian Bell, Anabelle Chavis, Avery Rawlings and Margo Maples.
