A Strategic Addition
Miami Hockey announced that defenseman Cal Huston will join the program for the 2026‑27 season, bringing a blend of experience and leadership to the blue line.
Huston hails from Youngstown, Ohio, where he excelled at Austintown Fitch High School before rising through the United States Hockey League.
His junior career includes two seasons with the Youngstown Phantoms, where he appeared in 115 games and contributed 17 points during the 2025‑26 campaign while serving as an alternate captain on the team's Anderson Cup‑winning side.
The previous year he recorded nine points with a plus‑29 rating, and in the 2023‑24 NAHL season he posted 21 assists in 50 games for the Maryland Black Bears, adding five assists in 11 playoff appearances.
Coaches expect his defensive reliability and playmaking ability to strengthen the roster, and his familiarity with the USHL's competitive environment should accelerate his adaptation to the college game.
Strategic Implications
The addition aligns with Miami Hockey's strategy to recruit proven junior talent, reinforcing depth and future prospects as the program looks to contend in upcoming conferences.
