Cal Poly’s men’s basketball program announced a series of leadership changes that will take effect for the upcoming 2026‑27 season. Kyle Bossier, who has been a driving force behind the team’s offensive surge, now holds the title of associate head coach, while James Andrisevic joins as an assistant coach with a focus on defensive schemes and player development.
A New Era of Coaching Leadership
Bossier’s ascent reflects a broader trend of offensive innovation in the program. Since his arrival in April 2024 from Division II Colorado Mesa, the Mustangs have climbed into the national conversation for three‑point shooting, ranking among the top ten in both makes and attempts per game. Over the past two seasons the team has posted 20 games with 90 or more points, a testament to the tempo and efficiency he helped instill.
Andrisevic brings a wealth of experience that spans continents and professional leagues. Having contributed to championship cultures with the Golden State Warriors during their 2015 and 2022 NBA titles, he also honed his analytical skills as a tactical analyst, specializing in practice and game film. His global résumé includes head coaching stints in Japan, Slovakia, Norway and other basketball hotspots, where he guided young squads to competitive finishes such as the 2012 Basketligaen Norge runner‑up.
A Dual Focus on Offense and Defense
In his new capacity, Bossier will continue to shape the Mustangs’ attacking philosophy, emphasizing spacing, ball movement and the relentless pursuit of high‑percentage shots. Andrisevic, meanwhile, will oversee defensive drills, refine skill work for individual players, and lead recruiting efforts that target talent capable of thriving in a fast‑paced system.
Both coaches expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming season. Bossier highlighted the excitement of building on the program’s recent scoring milestones, while Andrisevic underscored the importance of a balanced approach that blends defensive discipline with offensive firepower.
Looking Toward a Competitive Future
The front office believes the combined expertise of Bossier and Andrisevic will translate into more wins, higher national rankings and a deeper run in conference play. Fans can expect a more dynamic style of play, with an emphasis on three‑point shooting, transition offense and a defense that forces turnovers. As the roster matures, the new coaching duo aims to position Cal Poly as a perennial contender in the Big West and beyond.
