On a crisp Sunday afternoon at Spanos Stadium, the Cal Poly women's soccer team delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over San Jose State, extending their unbeaten streak and securing their second shutout of the season.
Junior forward Miah Thomas was the centerpiece of the attack, notching a brace that included her third goal of the campaign and marking her first multi-goal game, a performance that underscored her growing influence in the lineup.
Honoring the Seniors
The win also served as a tribute to four graduating seniors — Bailey Bracha, Shelby Runje, Annika Smith and Siena Urzua — whose careers at Cal Poly concluded with a memorable performance, while fifth-year standouts Sophia Minnite and Alyssa Szarlacki were also recognized for their continued impact.
Freshman Madison Lujan earned her first collegiate point with an assist that set up Thomas's opening goal, and sophomore Kammy MacLennan and Kenzie Herzing contributed their initial assists before Herzing's strike was headed home by Thomas, illustrating the team's depth and collaborative spirit.
Goalkeeper Shannon Porubski made five crucial saves in the first half, and Szarlacki stepped in after halftime to preserve the clean sheet, a defensive effort that coach Bernardo Silva praised as the foundation of the shutout.
Cal Poly outshot the Spartans 19-8 overall and held a 12-2 edge in the opening half, a statistical dominance that reflected the team's control from the first whistle to the final buzzer.
With the victory fresh in their minds, the Mustangs turn their attention to a forthcoming clash against the University of San Diego, hoping to carry the momentum forward as they close out a strong homestand.
