A Historic Commitment
Four‑star forward Caleb Lundy announced a verbal pledge to Drexel University on social media Thursday, sending shockwaves through the college basketball recruiting landscape.
The 6‑foot‑7 prospect, who starred at Archbishop Wood High School, is rated as the fourth‑best rising senior in Pennsylvania and the highest‑rated recruit ever to choose Drexel, surpassing former players such as Mate Okros, T.J. Bickerstaff and Damion Lee.
Lundy said he selected Drexel over longtime suitors including Temple, La Salle and St. Joseph’s, a decision that reflects both the program’s growing appeal and the influence of coach Zach Spiker, under whom he will now play.
His commitment is not yet official; Lundy must sign an aid agreement before the verbal pledge becomes binding, a process that will be completed during the early signing period for the class of 2027, which opens on November 11.
The pledge marks the third time a standout player from Archbishop Wood has committed to Drexel under Spiker, following Josh Reed’s 2024 signing and Justin Moore’s multi‑year tenure from 2022 to 2024.
Beyond his high school résumé, Lundy earned first‑team all‑Catholic League honors and second‑team all‑state recognition as a senior, while averaging 17.1 points and 4.7 assists per game for the Wood Vikings.
Lundy’s family tree includes a strong athletic pedigree: his father, Mikal Lundy, played running back at Kent State, and his uncle, Wali Lundy, was a sixth‑round NFL draft pick who briefly joined the Houston Texans.
The commitment also coincides with an offer extended to Imhotep Charter forward Zaahir Muhammad‑Gray, who remains uncommitted but could add further depth to Drexel’s future roster.
Drexel’s athletic director praised the recruiting class, noting that Lundy’s arrival, together with other incoming talent, positions the program to compete more aggressively in the Colonial Athletic Association.
