Calvary Day Eyes Another Title Run
Calvary Day is poised to defend its dominance as the program enters another highly anticipated season. After finishing the previous campaign with a 12‑2 record and a narrow defeat in the Class A‑3A State finals, the team returns with 19 starters still on the roster, a fact that has coaches and fans alike circling the calendar.
Leading the offense, senior quarterback James Mobley IV will again anchor the attack after throwing for 2,802 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2023. He will be joined by returning standouts such as offensive lineman Lawson Bentley, who has committed to the University of South Florida, and receivers Marlon Knight Jr., headed to Georgia Southern, and Jalen Hicks. The coaching staff has also seen a change, with Jason Cameron stepping into the role of offensive coordinator after veteran Mark Stroud stepped down.
The defense promises to be equally formidable. Defensive end Jeffrey McCormick, who recorded 18 sacks last season and earned All‑Greater Savannah first‑team honors, will be joined by cornerback Emerson Lewis, also a first‑team selection and a Maryland recruit. Additional playmakers include Brexton Bell, a wrestler‑turned‑defender, linebacker KB Baker III, who made the All‑Region first‑team, and Davis Witherington, who is currently sidelined by a spinal injury.
The preseason rankings have placed Calvary Day at No. 1 in the state according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution for Class 2A‑4A, and the team boasts seven preseason All‑State selections, the most of any squad. With chemistry built over years of competition and a schedule that opens against Glynn Academy on August 20, expectations are sky‑high as the team looks to translate experience into another deep playoff run.
