Crystal Bradford entered her second year as the head coach of Calvert High School’s field hockey program with a clear mission: to instill a culture of hard work, persistence and accountability.
The 2025 season features a roster of just 17 athletes, many of whom are freshmen and sophomores, making the squad one of the youngest in the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference.
A Culture Beyond the Scoreboard
During the offseason the coaching staff intensified conditioning, refined stick work and stressed communication, laying the groundwork for players who often pick up a stick for the first time at the varsity level.
Bradford measures success by attitude and development rather than the win‑loss column, encouraging the team to embrace growth and positive mindsets.
She hopes the experience will translate into greater confidence on the field and valuable life skills off it, and she is calling on the Calvert community to rally behind the student‑athletes as the season unfolds.
