Calvin Clements, a Kansas Jayhawks offensive tackle, has been named to the 2025 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, a preseason acknowledgment that highlights student‑athletes who excel in community service, academic performance and on‑field achievement.
Clements enters his senior season having started all 12 games a year ago and already counting 13 career starts. Beyond the gridiron he has been a regular presence in Lawrence’s summer outreach programs, organizing neighborhood clean‑ups, running youth football camps and mentoring local students.
Service as a Season‑Long Commitment
The Wuerffel Trophy, established in honor of 1996 Heisman winner Danny Wuerffel, is awarded each year to the college player who best combines athletic talent with a commitment to leadership and service. The award is presented in partnership with the Wuerffel Foundation, Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association.
Semifinalists for the trophy will be revealed in September, and the final recipient will be announced on December 11 at The Home Depot College Football Awards in New York City. The honoree and other finalists will then travel to Atlanta for the foundation’s Picklebowl: Heisman Edition, and later attend the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala in February at the College Football Hall of Fame.
Clements’s nomination underscores the Jayhawks’ growing emphasis on holistic development, and his involvement in community projects reflects a broader trend among Big 12 athletes who view service as an extension of their leadership role.
