A New Chapter for Stratford Basketball
Calvin Davis, a longtime fixture in South Carolina high school basketball, was announced this week as the new head coach of the Stratford High School girls basketball team.
During his decade at Summerville, Davis steered the program to three 5A Lower State title games, capturing two championships, and compiled a career record of 158 wins against 80 losses, highlighted by five seasons with at least 20 victories.
His tenure was marked by a consistent ability to develop talent, a fact underscored by the program’s deep playoff runs and sustained competitiveness in the state’s premier division.
Before his Summerville stint, Davis coached at Cross High School, where he posted 72 wins and secured two Region championships, further cementing his reputation as a builder of winning cultures.
Stratford entered the 2025‑26 campaign with a 3‑23 record, a season that left the program searching for stability. Athletic officials hope Davis’s track record of turning programs around will translate into a quicker resurgence.
The hiring comes as the school looks to leverage local talent and community support, with both Summerville High School and Cross High School listed among the institutions tied to Davis’s professional journey.
