A Homegrown Hero Returns to Beatrice
Cam Jurgens, a Super Bowl‑winning center who made his name with the Philadelphia Eagles, came back to the small town of Beatrice, Nebraska, to launch the inaugural Camp Jurgy. The event, held on a sunny Saturday at the House of Orange field, attracted roughly three hundred youngsters eager to learn, play, and connect.
Rather than a drill‑heavy clinic, the camp emphasized fun and community spirit. Jurgens and his fellow Eagles teammate Cole Payton spent the day swapping stories, tossing the ball around, and encouraging the kids to enjoy the game as much as they strive for excellence.
Adding a local touch, Wade Halvorsen, the newly appointed head coach of Beatrice High School, joined the former pros on the field. His presence underscored the importance of homegrown leadership in reviving the town’s football culture.
The day was as much about giving back as it was about teaching techniques. Organizers highlighted how the camp served as a catalyst for reigniting passion for the sport across the community, showing that the love for the game can thrive even in the most unexpected places.
Beyond the drills, the event showcased the power of collaboration. Local volunteers, parents, and regional partners helped coordinate logistics, proving that a single idea can ripple outward when supported by a united community.
