Cam Woods, a prolific scorer for Freeport High School, saw her senior campaign cut short in early May when a collision on the field triggered a severe knee injury during a Riverhounds club game in Cleveland.
The injury was diagnosed as a torn ACL, leading to surgery on June 12 and the start of an intensive rehabilitation program that has already moved her from crutches to strength training and mobility exercises.
Leadership in the Locker Room
Beyond the physical setback, Woods has embraced a leadership role, spending off‑days with teammates to share film analysis, strategy sessions, and encouragement, embodying a mental resilience that inspires the squad.
Former club teammate Lola Abraham, who endured a similar ACL tear as a freshman, offered guidance during Woods’ recovery, while former Ohio University coach Aaron Rodgers and staff provided early reassurance, reinforcing her commitment to return for college competition.
The Yellowjackets, defending WPIAL Class 2A champions, aim to retain their title and make a deep run in the PIAA playoffs, relying on Woods’ strategic insights and the collective resolve of a roster blending returning veterans with fresh talent.
