Alexander Zharovsky, a Montreal Canadiens prospect, has been training at the team’s Brossard facility since last week, using the time to sharpen his conditioning and familiarize himself with the new coaching staff.
His fellow Russian, winger Ivan Demidov, recently returned to Montreal after a stint abroad and is expected to link up with Zharovsky in the coming days. Demidov’s breakout season in the American Hockey League saw him top all rookies with 62 points in 82 games, a performance that many analysts believe could have earned him the Calder Trophy had it not been for Matthew Schaefer’s standout rookie campaign with the New York Islanders.
Training in Brossard
The proximity to the Canadiens’ main training centre allows Zharovsky to integrate quickly with the roster, while also giving him a chance to work on the specific skills highlighted by development coach Kirk Muller.
Demidov’s return adds a dynamic element to the camp, as his speed and offensive instincts are expected to raise the intensity of practice sessions for all participants.
Camp Preparations
The upcoming Canadiens development camp in July will mark Demidov’s first appearance after missing last year’s session due to visa complications. Organizers hope the camp will provide a clear pathway for him to earn a spot on the NHL roster.
General manager Kent Hughes has indicated that adding a second‑line centre is a priority, a move that could provide the complementary production Demidov needs to thrive in his sophomore season.
With both Russian prospects now on the same training track, the Canadiens’ staff is optimistic that the upcoming season could see a significant boost in offensive output from the young talent.
