Canisius Announces 2025‑26 Male Athlete of the Year Finalists
The Canisius College athletics department has unveiled the five student‑athletes who will battle for the 2025‑26 Male Athlete of the Year award. Voting for the finalists stays open until 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, and the winner will be revealed on Friday, June 19, in a ceremony that will be streamed to the campus community and beyond.
A Star‑Studded Field
These finalists span a range of disciplines, illustrating the breadth of talent within the Griffs’ programs and underscoring the competitive spirit that defines the college’s athletic landscape.
Toby Mayfield, a standout in men’s swimming and diving, capped his season by winning eight individual events and finishing on the podium 13 times overall. His contributions helped the relay team set a new school record at the 2026 MAAC Championships, a milestone that highlighted his impact on the program.
Felix Morin, a pitcher for the baseball squad, earned All‑MAAC First Team recognition and was twice honored as MAAC Pitcher of the Week. His strong performances earned him a professional contract with the Quebec Capitales of the Frontier League, marking the next step in his baseball career.
Alexis Simard, a leader on the men’s lacrosse team, tallied a program‑record 20 caused turnovers over his career and finished as the team’s top defensive playmaker, a testament to his skill and dedication.
Kahlil Singleton, a guard on the men’s basketball team, averaged 13.9 points per game, tying for the team lead and placing 14th in the MAAC. He reached a personal high of 37 points against Fairfield, showcasing his scoring ability on the biggest stages.
Mikey Takacs, the golf representative, maintained a team‑best 74.1 stroke average and was the Griffs’ top performer in eight of the team’s ten tournaments. He placed second at the 2025 Little Three Championship with a two‑round score of 140, underscoring his consistency.
