A strategic shift for the Griffs
Scott Galst, who had served as the program’s director of basketball operations during the 2025‑26 campaign, will transition to an assistant coach role, a move Christian described as a natural progression given Galst’s deep involvement in scouting and strategy.
Matthew Felsenfeld, previously at Parkland College where he helped secure a national junior‑college championship, has been named the new director of basketball operations.
Christian emphasized that Galst’s promotion reflects his contributions beyond day‑to‑day operations, noting his work with film analysis and opponent scouting during stints at St. John’s and the NBA.
The staff overhaul follows the departure of former assistant Jimmy Hall, who opted to continue his playing career overseas after the 2025‑26 season.
Felsenfeld arrives after a standout tenure at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois, where his team posted a 29‑7 record and captured the NJCAA Division II title in 2025‑26.
At Parkland, he blended on‑floor coaching with recruiting duties and team logistics, a blend of responsibilities that Christian believes will translate well to the Division I level.
The new director also brings a strong academic background, having graduated cum laude from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2025 with a degree in sports journalism, and two years of NBA Summer League experience in Las Vegas.
Hailing from Boulder City, Nevada, Felsenfeld’s background blends a small‑town upbringing with extensive exposure to high‑level basketball environments, from college campuses to professional summer circuits.
