The Canisius College women's soccer squad opened the 2024 season with a convincing 2-0 victory over Le Moyne, a performance that set an early tone for the Golden Griffins.

Freshman forward Romane Lanni broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, receiving a clean pass from sophomore defender Emilia Nuttall before slipping the ball past the Le Moyne keeper.
Nuttall's assist marked her first contribution as a Griff, underscoring the chemistry between the newcomers.
Just over an hour later, junior Ava Pickard's defensive misstep resulted in an own goal that doubled the lead, easing pressure on the back line.
Freshman goalkeeper Alexa Turmel made her collegiate debut and posted a shutout, facing only three shots and preserving the clean sheet.
Canisius dominated possession, outshot the Dolphins 14-6 and limited Le Moyne to three corner kicks in the second half, while senior Maggie Cregan led the attack with four attempts.
The win also marked the first time since 2016 that a Canisius freshman has scored in the opener, a milestone underscored by Lanni's contribution, and the team will look to build on the momentum when they meet Robert Morris on August 20 at the Demske Sports Complex.
