Canyon View Boys Basketball Team Makes Strong Showing in Mesa
The Canyon View High School boys basketball squad, guided by first‑year head coach Cory Duke, traveled to Mesa, Arizona, to compete in the AZPrreps365 Section 7 tournament. In their opening two games, the team posted victories over Stockton Lincoln of California and Las Vegas Desert Pines, showcasing a balanced attack and defensive intensity.
The momentum carried into the semifinals, where Canyon View faced Redondo Union, another California program. Despite a hard‑fought effort, the Sea Hawks pulled away in the fourth quarter, securing a 69‑55 win.
A Promising Start for a Young Program
Coach Duke, who had been on the job for just a month, praised the team's resilience and highlighted the contributions of senior guard P.J. Nowlin, who helped steady the offense during critical stretches. The experience gained in Mesa is expected to shape the team's approach as they prepare for the remainder of the season.
Canyon View High School officials said the tournament provided valuable exposure for the program and expressed optimism about the trajectory under Duke's leadership. The school also noted the supportive role of the local community and the broader basketball network in the region.
