The Cape Cod Baseball League’s midsummer celebration kicked off with a Home Run Derby that gathered some of the circuit’s most powerful hitters.
Six top sluggers entered the derby, including Brady Christman and Bub Terrell, who were seen as the main contenders as the skies darkened and a chill settled over the field.
Christman ultimately prevailed, outlasting Terrell in a tense showdown that was made all the more dramatic by gusty winds and a sudden drop in temperature.
Just as the All‑Star Game was set to begin, a downpour drenched the field, rendering the surface unsafe and forcing officials to call off the exhibition.
Draft prospects loom large
The cancellation did not dampen the excitement over the draft, as fourteen Cape League players heard their names called in the first round of the 2026 MLB Draft, underscoring the league’s reputation as a talent pipeline.
UCLA pitcher Angel Cervantes added a personal touch to the day, bringing a two‑inch purple dinosaur named Jerry to the mound, a calming totem that accompanied him alongside teammate Roch Cholowsky, who had enjoyed a stellar spring with a 52‑8 record.
The event showcased the immense talent of the Cape League’s brightest stars and reminded everyone of the league’s continued role in feeding the next generation of professional baseball players.
