A new chapter for local soccer
Cape Coral City FC is gearing up for its debut season in the United Premier Soccer League, a new chapter for adult soccer in Southwest Florida. The club was launched by Julian Nasser, a lifelong Cape Coral resident who has called the city home for 25 years. Nasser says he created the team to fill a gap he felt personally – a lack of adult‑focused soccer options after his own playing days ended.
When the whistle blows in late August, the roster will feature roughly 30 players, among them 21‑year‑old David Alexander. Born in Ethiopia and adopted by an Indiana family, Alexander grew up chasing academy teams before moving to Cape Coral at 15, when the local competitive scene dried up.
The club’s cultural vision, championed by Nasser, puts the community first. Brandon Harness, a father who brought his 17‑year‑old son to tryouts, sees the team as a pathway for kids who might not pursue college but still crave high‑level play. Brandi Herwey, mother of a 15‑year‑old youth player, calls the venture “very special” for expanding her son’s horizons.
For now, home matches will be staged at local high schools while the organization works with the city to secure Festival Park as a permanent venue. The ambition is clear: build a professional culture from the ground up, starting with the values that will define the club.
