Capital High School in Charleston, West Virginia, recently renamed its soccer field the Pete Meszaros Athletic Field, a tribute to the coach who shaped the program for decades.
A Coach’s Enduring Legacy
Pete Meszaros guided the Cougars to state championships in 1992 and 1998 and amassed 133 victories during his tenure, a record that still stands.
Long before the field received a synthetic surface, Meszaros personally tended the natural grass, ensuring its upkeep and even allowing his own child to play on it during early years.
Principal Jon Anderson highlighted Meszaros’s deep connection to the community, noting his relentless efforts to build the soccer program from the ground up and his lasting impact on students.
The dedication ceremony drew family members, former players and local supporters, who gathered to celebrate the coach’s contributions; a permanent sign will soon mark the renamed field.
