A season of giving
The Washington Capitals, together with the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation, concluded the 2025‑26 season having raised more than $1.8 million for charitable causes. The figure reflects a blend of fan‑focused celebrations, youth development efforts and artistic projects that turned ordinary game nights into purpose‑driven experiences.
One of the season’s signature moments was the Winter at The Wharf celebration, where a Screaming Eagle theme infused the venue with branded activities such as a Caps & Cocoa watch party and a player‑family skate. The event merged holiday spirit with community fundraising, drawing families and supporters onto the waterfront.
At Reston Town Center, the Capitals hosted a Rock the Rink Skate & Watch Party that transformed the space into an away‑game atmosphere. Attendees laced up skates, gathered around fire pits and received giveaways while the team’s presence turned the venue into a lively extension of the rink.
Public art also played a central role. A Capitals‑themed mural debuted at Washington Harbour Ice Rink, while a Women in Hockey mural was unveiled at Ballston Quarter, celebrating the growing visibility of female players and fans.
The Capitals’ Youth Hockey Development team launched a six‑week Future Caps Learn to Play program for children ages five to nine. The initiative offered discounted registration for D.C. residents, aiming to lower barriers to entry and nurture the next generation of players.
Volunteers from Monumental Sports & Entertainment turned a spring makeover of the Marion Street Intergenerational Garden into a community service highlight. The garden, supported by Vanda Pharmaceuticals and City Blossoms, received a $10,000 donation that will sustain its programming.
Local artists Austin Thomas and Lea Craigie collaborated with the team on installations that included a giant puck sculpture displayed during Cherry Blossom Night, blending hockey culture with the city’s seasonal festivities.
Exclusive fan experiences were extended to D.C.-based content creators and season‑ticket members, giving them behind‑the‑scenes access and opportunities to amplify the charitable message across social platforms.
Lasting community impact
Beyond the monetary tally, the Capitals’ outreach forged partnerships with nonprofits such as City Blossoms, enriched public spaces with art, and opened pathways for youngsters to discover hockey. These efforts illustrate how sports franchises can leverage their platform to drive tangible social change in the nation’s capital.
