A New Defensive Era
A major storyline is the reshaping of the defensive staff. Arthur Smith III has been promoted to lead the defensive unit, taking over from Brandon Robinson, who will now return to the coaching staff in a different capacity. Troy James joins as the Defensive Line Coach and also serves as the team’s Academic Coordinator, adding depth to the roster’s instructional staff.
The Cardinals look to build on a 2025 campaign that ended with a program‑record 67 points in the season finale against West Liberty, finishing 6‑5 overall and 5‑3 in Mountain East Conference play. After an early setback, the team rallied to win four of its next five games, setting the stage for a competitive 2026 schedule.
The season opener is slated for August 29 against Thomas More, and the first fully padded practice is scheduled for Friday, August 2. These milestones mark the transition from conditioning to full‑speed preparation, and the staff is confident that the work done in camp will translate into on‑field performance.
