The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown welcomed three new members on Sunday, as Carlos Beltran, Andruw Jones and Jeff Kent took their places among the sport’s legends.
A Puerto Rican Pride
Beltran, a native of Puerto Rico, spent the prime of his nearly 20‑year career in New York, where he became a five‑time All‑Star and a cornerstone of the Mets.
His achievements include three straight Gold Glove Awards from 2006 to 2008, two Silver Slugger honors, and a 2006 season that left the club just one victory shy of the World Series.
Inducted as the third Met in the Hall after Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza, Beltran’s career reflects both individual brilliance and a deep connection to his heritage.
At the ceremony he praised the Mets organization and spoke openly about the significance of his Puerto Rican roots, noting that the island has produced a steady stream of talent that continues to shape baseball.
The induction brings the total number of Hall of Famers who have worn a Mets uniform to three, underscoring the franchise’s enduring impact on the game’s history.
