A milestone for Hofstra baseball
Carlos Martinez, a senior right‑hander for Hofstra University, was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 2026 MLB Draft, becoming the 16th baseball player from the school to be drafted and the 118th overall pick.
During his three‑year tenure with the Pride, Martinez posted a 13‑8 record, a 4.39 ERA and 200 strikeouts in 168 innings. This past season he went 6‑3 with a 3.30 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 76 ⅓ innings, numbers that rank him third in program history for career strikeouts and tie him for seventh in wins.
Coach Frank Catalanotto praised Martinez’s performance and his family, highlighting the pitcher’s consistency and the personal bests he achieved, including a career‑low .228 opponent batting average and a 3.30 ERA that were both the best of his collegiate career.
Martinez’s accolades also include two First Team All‑CAA selections and a spot on the All‑CAA Championship Team, underscoring his impact on the field and his rise from College Point, New York, where he first excelled at Flushing High School.
The Giants’ draft director highlighted Martinez’s poise and projected role in the organization’s pitching rotation, while the pitcher himself expressed excitement about joining a storied franchise and continuing his development at the professional level.
