Florida Gators secure Spanish defender Carlota Martins
The University of Florida announced Tuesday that Carlota Martins, a 20‑year‑old Spanish defender, will join the Gators for the forthcoming campaign, adding depth to a back line that has been seeking fresh talent.
Martins arrives after two seasons with FC Barcelona C, where she logged over 30 appearances and developed within the club’s renowned La Masia academy. Her eight‑year association with Barcelona’s youth system includes stints with the U15, U16 and U17 squads, during which she captained the U17 side in a high‑profile friendly against England in September 2024.
Leadership and International Pedigree
Internationally, Martins has earned 23 caps across Spain’s youth national teams, featuring in every minute of a 3‑0 victory over Belgium in the UEFA Development Tournament and playing the full duration of a 2‑1 win against Iceland in March 2024. Her composure under pressure and ability to read the game have drawn praise from coaches and teammates alike.
