Carmy Cesaire Appointed Head Coach of La Jolla Country Day Football

The veteran coach aims to elevate the program through relationships, character, and competitive excellence.

A New Era for Torrey Football

Carmy Cesaire, a longtime assistant at La Jolla Country Day School, has been named the team’s new head coach, taking the reins from Tyler Hales, who guided the squad to a 6‑7 season and a CIF San Diego Section Division IV semifinal appearance.

Cesaire, who played college football at Norwich University and Fitchburg State University before embarking on a coaching career, brings a blend of experience and personal connection to the role. He spent five seasons at Fitchburg State before returning to San Diego in 2013, rising through the ranks from linebackers and running backs coach under then‑Athletic Director Jeff Hutzler to offensive coordinator and assistant head coach.

The coach’s philosophy centers on building strong relationships, fostering character, and delivering competitive excellence. He emphasizes perseverance, accountability, integrity, and enthusiasm, aiming to create a premier football experience for players, parents, and the broader school community.

Cesaire also hopes to shift practice focus toward new skill sets while honoring the foundation laid by his predecessor. He stresses that the program will be player‑led, valuing the input of senior athletes, and seeks to strengthen ties with families, alumni, and the wider school community.

Family ties run deep: Cesaire is the father of star wide receiver Quentin Cesaire, a current standout for the school. He expressed gratitude to Tyler Hales for the program’s growth and looks forward to continuing the momentum that has made Torrey football special.

The appointment comes as the team reflects on a recent 6‑7 season that included a semifinal run, and Cesaire is eager to build on that momentum, leveraging his extensive background and community connections to elevate the program.
