A strategic start to the season
The University of North Carolina’s basketball program has unveiled its 2026‑27 non‑conference schedule, a slate that reflects both ambition and pragmatism as new head coach Michael Malone begins his tenure.
Opening the season, the Tar Heels will enjoy a six‑game homestand that begins on November 2 with a matchup against Western Carolina before welcoming Wofford, Wyoming, Georgia, Marshall and Monmouth in successive contests.
Balancing home dominance and road challenges
The early stretch also includes a neutral‑site showdown with West Virginia in Charlotte, giving the team a chance to test its depth against a different style of play.
December brings marquee home games against Arkansas in the ACC/SEC Challenge and a home‑and‑home series with Butler, while the first true road test arrives on December 12 when UNC travels to face Georgetown.
Before the holidays, neutral‑site contests with NC State and Kentucky will take place, followed by a home game against The Citadel, setting the stage for a January trip to Nashville where the Tar Heels will meet Illinois in the Nashville Hoops Showdown.
