Carrie Underwood is set to kick off the 14th season of NBC Sports’ Sunday Night Football with a fresh take on the show’s signature anthem, reimagining “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” in a gritty rock arrangement.
The performance continues a lineage that began in 2013 when Underwood first took the stage, following earlier renditions by Pink in 2006 and Faith Hill from 2007 through 2012, each bringing their own stylistic flair to the tradition.
Rock Roots Meet Football Fever
Beyond the football spotlight, Underwood is riding the momentum of her latest record, Denim & Rhinestones, which surged to No. 10 on the Billboard 200 upon its 2022 release, underscoring her crossover appeal that spans country, pop and now rock.
In late August she will bring that same energy to the Grande Ole Opry in Nashville, delivering two shows that promise to blend her country roots with the electric edge she’s cultivated for the anthem.
Creative director Tripp Dixon oversaw the sonic translation, weaving together the raw power of Joan Jett’s original inspiration with modern rock frequencies to craft a version that feels both nostalgic and forward‑looking.
